RAMPUR: After the Supreme Court granted interim bail to SP leader Azam Khan in an alleged forgery case on Thursday, the investigating officer of the case and SHO of Rampur Sadar Kotwali police station Gajendra Tyagi filed an application before the special MP/MLA court, seeking two days' police custody of the SP leader. The court, however, rejected the application.
The IO said police custody of Azam is needed to "recover a fake rubber stamp allegedly used by him for his Jauhar University project to obtain a no objection certificate for Rampur Public school building from local authorities."
The prosecution counsel argued before the court that the rubber stamp needs to be recovered from Azam's possession to complete the investigation.

However, Zubair Khan, Azam's counsel, demanded that the application be rejected, terming it "contemptuous" as "it was moved after the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Azam Khan."
Meanwhile, the court has issued the release order, "parwana", of Azam to Sitapur jail.
